This small hamlet on the northern shore of the Northwest Passage is welcoming sight in the endless barrens of Cornwallis Island. Up close, the community seems very 'precarious', like some off world colony in an unforgiving Martian landscape. Its warmth lay within in the human community, which, on this morning at least, was conspicuous mostly by its absence.
