A long planned camping trip to Killarney couldn't stand in the way of our first Arctic Quest show. I took one small panel with me, "Old Ice" pictured above, and made some good headway over the four days. Essentially as study piece, this colour sketch of the melting ice around monumental island is a preliminary for a larger work to come. |

The Initial sketch can be see at the begining of the 2nd half of my arctic travelogue. Watching the undulating patterns on the lakes surface was helpful in capturing the rhythms within the painting. One comment received by email after the show was particularly pleasing: "I have never seen water look so deep and so cold"... " primal and threatening ...". |
