Eldorado
Dawn

After a 1:30am wake-up call and a few hours of climbing we finally reach the glaciers. Hidden crevasses are always a danger and we needed to rope-up at this point, just in case. As we strap on our crampons and make various adjustments, Eldorado's peak is just visible against the first, barely discernable, hint of dawn.

An hour or so later, just two or three hundred feet below the summit, the sun rises over the distant mountains.

Crossing a 'Moat'. This particular kind of crevasse, along the Glacier's edge, is cause as ice tears away from the sides of the valley through which it flows.

Craig looks up the final stretch as we stop for a few moments to enjoy the view.

The ice ridge, along which we must walk to reach the rock summit. Over the edge: a 600ft drop.

"Walking takes longer... than any other known form of locomotion except crawling. Thus it stretches time and prolongs life. Life is already too short to waste on speed." - Edward Abbey, "Walking"
