In the Alpine meadows insects continued to plagued us, as they did in forest below, and at every point on the slopes. Since we had opted not to bring a tent (i.e. none of us wanted to carry one) we needed to move into the boulder fields above where, finally, most of the flies disappeared, and a gentle breeze kept the remaining ones at bay.


Dale chooses a spot to test out his new-fangled, down-filled, extra-thick, inflatable, sleeping mat. There were no particularly level spot to be found, so any place was pretty much as good as another.


I found a nice hollow with a flat (ish) patch of dry mud, and fresh running water right by my head - luxury!

Craig calls it a night. After a long, exhausting climb, and early start planned for the next morning, none of us waited for nightfall to sleep.


Just before I drift off to sleep I watch the moon rise over a view that no hotel could rival.
