| "Straight up and straight down", was one description of this trail. After a short hike across the valley bottom, the mountain slope suddenly rose up through the thick forest in front of us - to our obvious bewilderment. |

From the alpine meadows at about 6500ft, the Cascades stretch off into the distance in the soft early evening light. The air was hazy from forest fires, mostly in B.C., a few miles north of here. |
